Westview Veterinary Hospital

About Us

Our History
Westview Veterinary Hospital has been an important part of the Powell River community since the 1970s. Initially started by Dr. Harry Wood to help the mill town’s many farm animals, the practice was bought by Dr. Dane Wray in the early 1980s after Dr. Wood's retirement. The practice evolved to serve the beloved pets of Powell River and the surrounding area.
Dr. Brian Barnes started the practice in 1984 after graduating from the University of Saskatoon Veterinary Medicine program.

The practice has had many homes initially starting in what is now called Crossroads Mall in a wing that has since been torn down. After a few renovations in the 1990s, the practice made the big move to 4830 Joyce Avenue. 2013 saw the finish of some large-scale renovations on the building as it is known today. Our new facility better accommodates our busy practice making a more comfortable environment for everyone. The Powell River Chamber of Commerce awarded Westview Veterinary Hospital the Beautification Award in 2013.
The practice has been an accredited member of the American Animal Hospital Association for many years and as such is held to the highest standards of veterinary excellence. Dr. Barnes and his staff promote the health and well-being of all animals in the Powell River area through their tireless efforts in conjunction with the SPCA, Conservation Officer Service, and the Powell River Orphaned Wildlife Society (PROWLS).
